Standard vs. Extra-Tall Sewing Machine Lifts
Should I choose a standard or extra-tall sewing machine air lift?
Choose the standard SML1 only when your installed machine is within its 50 lb and 14-3/4 in. height limits. Choose the SML-2HD extra-tall lift when the machine needs up to 60 lb capacity and 16-1/2 in. travel, then verify that the cabinet has the required opening, depth, and solid mounting support.
Lift selection is driven by the machine’s actual installed weight and lowered height, then by the cabinet dimensions needed to mount it. Do not choose a lift solely because a machine’s advertised class sounds “standard” or “heavy duty.”
When the standard lift fits
CCW’s standard German air lift (SML1) is rated for machines up to 50 lb and up to 14-3/4 in. tall. It offers three working positions—flatbed, tabletop/free-arm, and storage—and needs a minimum 12-1/2 in. wide by 11-1/16 in. deep top clearance before the machine-specific opening and insert are finalized.
When to move to extra-tall
The heavy-duty extra-tall lift (SML-2HD) supports up to 60 lb and has 16-1/2 in. of travel. It is intended for machines that need additional lowered height, including some large quilting and embroidery models. The larger lift is not a substitute for measuring cabinet depth, shelf placement, and the final machine opening.
Compare your options
SML1 standard air lift
For compatible standard sewing or serger machines where cabinet depth and the machine-specific opening meet the manufacturer’s requirements.
SML-2HD extra-tall air lift
For taller or heavier quilting and embroidery machines that exceed the standard lift’s limits, provided the cabinet also has adequate interior clearance and support.
